COVID-19 is affecting nearly every part of our planet. Even nature, which cannot contract COVID, is impacted by the loss of livelihoods in wildlife areas and resultant poaching pressure. Conservation South Luangwa holds the line and provides law enforcement support to the Department for National Parks and Wildlife in the Luangwa Valley. Alongside the Zambia Carnivore Programme, they have formed highly trained, skilled and disciplined field teams who protect our iconic species and ensure that Zambians for years to come can enjoy — and gain financial benefit — from their own wildlife resources. The positive impact of these organisations is hard to overstate.

Conservation South Luangwa has had two senior staff in the shortlists for TUSK awards in recent years. The CEO, Rachel McRobb, was a finalist in 2016 and Benson Kanyembo, CSL’s law enforcement specialist, was winner of the TUSK Ranger award in 2019. They recently shared a Zoom call with TUSK’s Royal Patron, HRH Prince William. We are grateful to Rachel and to Benson, and to the dedicated teams that they represent, for their diligent work.

Please watch their latest video below which illustrates their work and consider supporting them in any way that you can. Thank you from me as someone who loves nature, whose livelihood is based on the Luangwa’s wildlife and as a Trustee and Board Member of CSL.
